Visual and Performing Arts Academy Portfolio Day
This event is by invitation only.
Students must have successfully met the requirements of the program in order to be invited to attend.
Performing Arts
-
To apply for the Performing Arts students will be auditioning via live performance on Portfolio Day in the BTW auditorium. Please read the live performance requirements for each concentration area outlined in the documents below. Remember, there is no such thing as a perfect audition, so do the best you can! We will support you through your audition and cheer you on! Don't Forget to dress appropriately & Smile!!!
Chorus

Audition Materials Audition Sequence:
1. Perform one solo piece. (Please select from the list below)
2. Perform a series of vocalizes to determine your range, vocal quality, and general vocal health.
3. Matching of pitches played on a piano.
4. A short sight-reading excerpt (An example can be emailed to you)
Vocal applicants should prepare one of the following songs below (Sheet Music & accompaniment tracks are available):
· Salley Garden
· My Lord, What a Mornin'
· Dona Nobis Pacem
· Ev'ry Time I Feel the Spirit
· Amazing Grace
What are we looking for in your vocal audition?
· Pitch and Rhythmic accuracy
· Good tone quality and vowel production
· Appropriate middle school-level technique
· Musicality and stage presence
· A good ear

Band

Have a prepared selection in any scale of your choice.
Orchestra

- Prepared Solo Piece- In any key 1-2 minutes.
- Prepare two- 2 octave scales
- Sight-reading (will be given at audition)
Dance
-
Students auditioning in dance should have a 60-second dance routine prepared in a style of their choice. Students will also participate in a short, 30-minute class where students will demonstrate their knowledge of certain dance forms. Students should wear form-fitting clothes that allow for full movement of the body. Examples of appropriate attire include leotards and tights, with or without compression shorts, or black leggings with a fitted shirt. To prevent you from sustaining any injuries, be sure to warm up before your presentation. I look forward to meeting you.

Theatre

Students who are interested in becoming a Theatre Arts student are asked to do 1 of the following:
• Prepare a 30 sec.- 1 minute comedic or dramatic monologue.
• Retell a funny story about a personal experience.
Visual Arts

To apply for admission into a Visual Arts Concentration students must prepare and present an art portfolio. For your portfolio, choose one option or both, then follow the guidelines below. The portfolio can be presented both digitally on a jump drive or physically in a portfolio case. Feel free to email any BTW Art Educator with questions or for assistance. On Portfolio Day, each student will meet 1-on-1 with a BTW Art Teacher to review their portfolio. Be ready to discuss your art skill proficiencies and ambitions for the future.
OPTION #1: General Portfolio

2 still lifes/observational drawings, 1 portrait, 1 landscape, 1 human figure (any medium for all)
OPTION #2: Media Specific Portfolio:

3 or more photos of 3-D sculpture (any medium)

3 or more Digital Art illustrations
-
3 or more Photographs (Digital or Darkroom) * Mr. Fisher requires you to bring preliminary sketches and/or thumbnail sketches for the photography portfolio
