10th, 11th and 12th graders: Watch this video to learn how you can get prepared for life after high school
Parents: Please read this information which explains how you can keep in-the-know with NJROTC
PHYSICALS: A physical is required for all cadets in NJROTC during the 2023-2024 school year. There is an opportunity to get a physical each year at the school. The dates will be published as advertised by the school. The cost to get a sports-like physical is around $20 (cash only). Be sure to use the new physical form which can be picked up at the main office, athletic trainers' office or athletic directors' office. A copy of the physical will be given to the Athletic Trainer and a copy to the NJROTC instructor. This is mandatory for participation in drill events and weekly PT.
No physicals are scheduled at this time.
DUES: Each year group of cadets (NS1/2/3/4) are responsible for paying a dues fee of 60.00. This fee is used to augment the cost of food and travel whenever we leave the school. Almost every occasion, we take it upon ourselves to feed the cadets and or use the dues to lower the cost of trip transportation, lodging, entry fees and/or food. Upon receipt of dues, the cadets will receive a welcome package of NJROTC clothing items to show support for the unit.
Welcome

Welcome to Booker T. Washington High School NJROTC Unit.
In 1917, Booker T. Washington High School became Virginia's first accredited public high school for African Americans. The school student body count is approximately 1790 students in grades 10th through 12th. The school's namesake is the “Mighty Bookers.”
The NJROTC program here at Booker T. Washington is a thriving program that has been highly recognized over the last decades. The unit is very active in the community, averaging about 20,000 hours a year of community service, supporting various events around the tri-cities, and being highly competitive in Drill competitions. This has all culminated in the unit being recognized consistently as a “Distinguished Unit.”
During your cadets' four years of NJROTC, they will learn the tools necessary to succeed in life. This course was designed to “build good citizens”, NOT to promote the military. They will learn health and hygiene, parts of the government, situational leadership, teamwork, mentorship, drill-discipline and much more. We pride ourselves on giving the cadets the tools to handle college, military, or the workforce immediately after high school. Many cadets return to support the program and mentor the new cadets.
The program supports the parents' efforts to develop and strengthen:
Character
National pride
National security
Independence
Self-respect
Teamwork
Professionalism
Self-disciple
Decision making
NJROTC is a mentorship program where cadets will be managed by two retired Navy instructors, yet the cadets run the program. Community involvement & professional development established by the NJROTC program is appealing to colleges & future employers. Students in NJROTC programs are more likely to stay out of trouble & graduate high school than those not enrolled. There are many college scholarships available to cadets & the instructors will guide students in finding them.
