Ms. Angela D. Burns
Fine Arts Academy Coordinator
Ms. Angela D. Burns attended public school in the City of Hampton. She began playing the viola as a fifth grade elementary school student. Ms. Burns continued playing and performing on viola in Jr. High at Spratley Middle School and at Phoebus High School. She is a graduate of Norfolk State University, where she earned a B.S Degree in Music Education and studied under Dr. Peter Zaret and Mrs. Margaret P. Davis. Ms. Burns began her teaching career in Virginia Beach Public Schools in 1986, where she taught grades 5-12. She has taught in Chesapeake Public Schools and was a string instructor for the Portsmouth Magnet Program. Currently, Ms. Burns is the orchestra director at Booker T. Washington High School and its Coordinator for their Visual and Performance Arts Academy in the Norfolk City Public Schools. Ms. Burns is also the district’s string specialist. She has an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership and Curriculum and Instruction from Regent University.
Ms. Burns truly values educating young musicians and considers it a privilege to work with talented students. In addition, she has conducted All-City Festivals, chaired District Orchestra Festivals and has chaired All-City Events. Ms. Burns was selected on Who’s Who Among American Teachers in 2005 and 2006. She has performed with local professional orchestras and is currently the violist in the Cappriccio String Quartet.

Mr. Elliott Fisher

My name is Elliott Fisher, and I teach Intro Art, Photography, AP 2D Studio, and AP Art History at Dr. Booker T. Washington High School Academy of the Arts. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Old Dominion University in Printmaking and Photographic Media with a minor in Art History, as well as a Master of Arts from Azusa Pacific University in Modern Art History, Theory and Criticism. In my Photography classes we start with basic composition and build an understanding of light sensitive material such as film. We continue to develop the skills and delve into film manipulation, digital photography, digital manipulation, and a sense of unity and storytelling through images. As a practicing, professional photographer, I work to make sure my students are prepared for a highly competitive career in photography. I love photography. There are few artistic media that allow the artist to capture honest and unaltered realities and create stories through images. I am ecstatic to teach the upcoming generation of photographers the skills and techniques to create incredible images and tell engaging stories.

Mr. Edward Williams
Visual Arts
Mr. Williams holds a BFA in art education from East Carolina University with a concentration in painting; additionally, he earned an MBA from Strayer University. He has taught in Norfolk Public schools for ten years. He loves to draw and paint, particularly portraiture. View his samples.
He teaches Draw/Paint courses and Digital Media and creates a framework that allows students to channel their originality. Mr. Williams envisions the mix of new technology with traditional media as the world moves farther into the 21st century.

Mr. Dorian Williams-El

Dorian S.Williams-El is entering his fifth year as an Art Teacher with Norfolk Public Schools at Booker T. Washington High School. He has a Bachelors Degree of Fine Arts from Norfolk State University, he also holds a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Visual Studies from Norfolk State University. Mr Williams-El has worked as an Art instructor at Norfolk State University and the University of Maryland Eastern-Shore. An Artist, Painter originally from Selma Alabama, Mr.Williams-El has a passion for drawing, printmaking, history, and philosophy. His goal as an Art Educator is to support and employ each student with the tools to build skills for success as well as improve academic and social competence in preparation for life in the 21st century.
