Curriculum
By implementing a balanced approach that integrates various aspects of literacy in alignment with the Creative Curriculum, involving families and the community, and adapting to the evolving needs of the students, we can ensure a successful literacy journey for every child.
Instruction
Preschoolers will participate in a well designed early literacy instructional program that is aligned with The Virginia Department of Education's Early Learning and Development Standards.
Preschoolers will receive:
-
daily explicit systematic phonemic awareness and phonics instruction;
-
ample opportunities to practice oral language skills;
-
access to an engaging and print-rich environment to include well-stocked libraries, reading corners, and a wide range of age-appropriate books; and
-
access to literacy-related resources, such as alphabet charts, visual word walls, and language games, interactive read alouds, etc.
Assessment
Preschoolers' skills will participate in the following assessments:
Intervention
Interventions for preschool students include age and developmentally-appropriate assessment tools and skill development ranges to evaluate children's literacy progress and identify areas for improvement. Preschoolers' literacy development is regularly assessed and monitored. Data-driven differentiated instruction is provided to our preschoolers in small group or one-to-one settings.
