The Hospital School Programs (HSP) offer educational services for children supported by CHKD and cover their inpatient status, transition to home or school, and maintenance and follow-up care through outpatient clinics.
We serve enrolled children PreK-12 who are inpatient in the Children’s Pavilion and Main Hospital. We also serve children who are supported by the outpatient Developmental Pediatrics, Care Connection, and Sickle Cell/Blood Disorder clinics.
Our staff includes early childhood teachers, elementary teachers, special educators, secondary content teachers, educational consultants, music and art therapists, art and physical education teachers, and an office team.
HSP operates from a collaborative relationship between the Virginia Department of Education State-Operated Program, The Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters, and Norfolk Public Schools.
All educational services are provided at no cost to patients or families. Both parental and medical permissions are required for HSP staff to work with CHKD patients.
