Inpatient School Program

Inpatient teachers provide a continuum of services for children in the CHKD Main Hospital including individualized instruction for all Kindergarten to 12^th grade general and special education students.

In addition, preschool services are available for students ages 2-4 who have an IEP. Instruction is delivered 1:1 and services include contacting the child’s home school to coordinate assignments, maintaining or increasing academic skills and school routine, and facilitating a smooth transition to home or school upon discharge. Special education/504 processes and plans are supported in the hospital setting as appropriate.

Art and Music Therapy is the therapeutic use of art and/or music to achieve student success. Services are available to all students enrolled in the Inpatient School Program in both group and individual formats. Group sessions occur in the Child Life playrooms and are open to any patient who is medically able to attend. Individual services are determined by referral, patient need, and therapist availability.
