Excellence, Empathy, & Equity: Setting a Steady Course, Together

Ms. Lewis steps into the role of Principal at James Blair Middle School. A dedicated educator and leader, she brings a rich tapestry of experience in instructional excellence, student advocacy, and community engagement each grounded in her commitment to excellence, empathy, and equity.

Ms. Lewis most recently served at Academy for Discovery at Lakewood (ADL), where she taught fifth grade and later returned following a year as Assistant Principal at Burbank Elementary School in Hampton, Virginia. During her tenure at ADL, she was proud to be named the school’s first Teacher of the Year for the 2015–2016 school year, a testament to her passion for teaching and her impact in the classroom.

Her journey in education began in Norfolk Public Schools, where she served in multiple roles across elementary and central office settings. From teaching third through fifth grade at Campostella and Little Creek Elementary Schools, to serving as a History Teacher Specialist for the district, Ms. Lewis has always approached her work with a focus on student growth and achievement. She also supported school operations in earlier roles as an office manager and secretary, gaining a deep understanding of school community needs from every angle.

She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and an active member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church in Norfolk, where her father serves as pastor. Above all, her greatest joy is being the mother of a beautiful daughter who inspires her every day.

As Principal of James Blair Middle School, Ms. Lewis is steadfast in her belief that when schools set a steady course together anchored in high standards, mutual respect, and a deep care for all students, anything is possible.
