• Dear Calcott Families,

Please read the introduction below from two of our 2025-2026 PTA Board Nominees. We will hold our election on May 14th at 8:30 a.m. at the school. We still have a need for a nominee for Secretary. Nominations will be accepted from the floor on May 14th.

    Nominee for President:

My name is Diana Beach. The students call me Mama Beach. I retired from teaching two years ago after 37 years and 32 of those years were with Mary Calcott and I currently teach part-time here. I was also a Calcott parent as all three of my children attended this school. Working on a volunteer board is not new to me. I was on the Granby High School Crew Board for 11 years and served as President for three of those years. I was on the Northside PTA board when my oldest attended the school. Currently, I am the Secretary for the board at my co-op.

The function of the PTA is to promote the goals of the school and enhance the learning experience for our students. I hope my experience working collaboratively with others and my knowledge of teaching will be a positive addition to the PTA Board. The administration and faculty have always appreciated the many activities the PTA arranges for our students, and I hope to keep that momentum going. Calcott is very dear to my heart, and I wish to keep making it a wonderful school to attend and work.

    Nominee for Treasurer:

Hello, my name is Valery Morris, and I’m honored to be nominated for the role of Treasurer for the PTA at Mary Calcott Elementary.
I hold a Bachelor's degree in social work. During college, I gained experience in data entry and accounts receivable while working with a document management facility. My passion for working with children began during my time as a relief worker at a children’s crisis shelter, where I supported youth between the ages of 12 and 18. After earning my degree, I continued serving the community as a social worker in the mental health and substance abuse field with the City of Virginia Beach.
In addition to my professional experience, I’ve held leadership roles within my community. I previously served 3 years as the president of the women’s ministry at my church. I have also served as an area coordinator for JustServe. I genuinely enjoy working with others and finding ways to make a positive impact.
I’m also a proud Mary Calcott parent. My two oldest daughters attended Mary Calcott and are graduates of Norfolk Public Schools. My youngest is currently in 4th grade. For the past four years, I’ve had the privilege of working at Mary Calcott as a Pre-K teacher assistant. I’m also currently serving as the PTA Treasurer.
