We are excited to announce that Norfolk Public Schools’ Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Affairs will be hosting the Unity in Action: Building Bridges to Success – Community Tour which will take place on Monday, February 5th, from 10 AM to 12 PM at the Jordan-Newby Library. This year’s theme is Safety and Empowerment, and the tour will bring valuable resources and services directly to our community members.

The purpose of this event is to share information and give parents, guardians, and community members the opportunity to express their needs, with the goal of identifying and breaking barriers and providing meaningful support. The session will focus on Safety and Empowerment, beginning with an opening presentation by Patrick Hartig, Assistant Special Agent in Charge, titled 'Fighting the Silent Threat: Understanding the Dangers of Fentanyl to Protect Our Students and Community'. A panel of presenters will follow, discussing ways to support family safety and empowerment through resources and services.

Participants will also have the opportunity to share feedback on their specific needs and suggest future topics to address those needs. Their input will be vital in shaping future tour topics and resources to best meet the needs of our community.

We will host Community Tour stops in different areas of Norfolk throughout the year, aiming to reach families where they are and provide support in welcoming community spaces. Each stop will focus on connecting families with local resources and fostering open dialogue.

We kindly ask for your support in promoting this important event to families and staff within your school communities. Please share the event details through your communication channels (newsletters, emails, etc.) to encourage participation. See the attached flyer.

Additionally, we have designated several schools as transportation sites for parents, guardians, and community members who wish to attend the event but require transportation. Those sites include Coleman Place, Lake Taylor School, and Sherwood Forest Elementary School. Pick up will be at 9:45 and the drop-off will be by 12:15. Please ensure your office staff and appropriate building personnel are aware of this plan so they can prepare accordingly.

We appreciate your assistance in spreading the word about this meaningful initiative. Together, we can strengthen connections, celebrate diversity, and empower our community members.
