Maury High School: Preserving Legacy, Embracing the Future
Norfolk Public Schools invite you to discuss the transformative redevelopment of Maury High School, a cornerstone of our community since 1911. This initiative reflects our commitment to providing a cutting-edge new educational facility, while honoring the school’s history, and retaining the historic structure for a future use.

    Building a Vibrant Future
The new four-story high school is designed to support modern teaching and learning practices while fostering a safe, sustainable, and inspiring environment. Key features of the redevelopment include:

    • Outdoor Learning Spaces: Enhancing education beyond the classroom.
    • State-of-the-Art Athletic Facilities: Including a football field, baseball and softball fields, a six-court tennis complex, multi-use fields, a track, and a natatorium. These facilities will serve both the school and the broader community, promoting health and wellness.
    • Constructed Wetland: A groundbreaking feature for flood resilience, this wetland will mitigate stormwater impacts, create wildlife habitats, and offer environmental education opportunities.

    Community-Centered Design
Community engagement has been a guiding principle throughout the redevelopment process. Norfolk Public Schools is working closely with students, parents, teachers, and civic leaders from the 30 neighborhoods served by Maury High School to ensure the new facility reflects the unique character and needs of our city.

A Commitment to Resilience and Excellence
The new Maury High School will be a symbol of Norfolk’s dedication to education, sustainability, and community. By combining design excellence with meaningful community involvement, this project will create an educational hub that supports learning, fosters resilience, and strengthens our neighborhoods for generations to come.
