The coach and teacher meet to plan instruction based on a coaching goal. During this meeting the coach and teacher will determine which coaching modalities will be used to support this new instruction. When working through the prepare stage, an NPS Instructional Coach should consider:
- Based on the coaching goals, the coach and teacher determine a specific
instructional practice or strategy they want to try out. The coach and teacher
share their knowledge of this instructional practice or strategy, and together, the
coach and teacher co-plan the instruction
- The teacher decides which coaching modalities would be most helpful to them.
They can choose from the following: in-class modeling, co-teaching, modeling
prior to class, visiting another teacher’s class to see the practice, video of
practice, or classroom visit by the coach
- The coach and teacher determine what data will be collected in conjunction with
the new instructional practice to evaluate implementation and its impact on
student learning
- The coach and teacher decide on logistical matters, including how the coach will
be introduced to the class, learning the teacher’s class schedule, etc.
