Explora is a database of encyclopedias and specialized reference sources for multidisciplinary research. These reference materials once were accessible only in the library, but now you can access them online from the library or remotely 24/7. An even more effective way to access databases is to access them using your Norfolk Public Library credentials. Gale through NPL offers more resources, but you need to enter your library card number to access them.
Find It Virginia offers a variety of reference material, and it's yours, just for being a citizen of Virginia. Explora is one of their reference materials, but there are links to a whole lot more!
eMediaVA is Virginia's premier statewide digital media distribution system that provides teachers and staff a learning resource with digital learning objects, video, audio, and interactives all correlated to Virginia's Standards of Learning (SOL). All staff may log in using their NPS network login and password.
The Library of Congess catalog can tell you if there is a books in print on your subject.

The Norfolk Public Library has a vast collection of the books you need. As a citizen of Norfolk, you automatically qualify for a card! Research database access is available with a library card number. The NPL Database offerings from EBSCO and Gale Resources is much more robust than those from Norfolk Public Schools.
Norfolk Public Schools offers access to a variety of online reference resources.
Gale Student Resources provide students with full-text article access from school or home.
Scholastic Go! offers a one search box access to information from Grolier Multimedia Excyclopedia, Encyclopedia Americana, Amazing Animals of the World, America the Beautiful, Lands and Peoples, The New Book of Knowledge, and the New book of Popular Science. It's a great place to find basic information about a topic to expand yourr in-depth research with other materials. You can access at school directly, but you need a user name and password at home.
World Book Online offers a suite of encyclopedia resources for students of all ages. It's a great place to gather basic information to lend focus to directed research.
The Lyman Beecher Brooks Library at Norfolk State University is another valuable resource. You can search the collection via computer, and access print journals that are available only through NSU.
